It's possible to get a social fund loan paid into a bank account. You can apply on a form or you can apply on the phone.

Sometimes local churches/gurduwaras etc. help with food in a crisis. Your nearest place of worship may know which ones do in your area.

Hi JJ
I think you have to take this issue up with your bank. Although I don't know much about the banking system, nobody should be allowed to take money out of your bank without your permission (as in direct debits) even if your account was credited by mistake.
The DWP can in certain circumstances refuse to pay you until a medical, but they should give reasons in writing of why they are not paying you, so I would suggest that you see the CAB to find out if this applies.
You may be able to obtain a crisis loan or hardship payment in the meantime.
Regards
Derek

The answer is no they can't refuse to pay you ESA at the assessment rate before you are subject to the ESA work capability assessment.
As your situation is obviously urgent, I would suggest that you contact the DWP office with which you had the telephone conversation this morning, and demand to speak to the Customer Services Manager. Explain that you are currently in the ESA assessment phase and the DWP have a legal duty to pay you the appropriate amount of the allowance, pertaining to your circumstances. Tell him/her that the refusal to pay ESA without good reason is tantanmount to maladministration as well as being unlawful. Ask for the full names of the individual officers each time you speak to the DWP, as this will be helpful is you need to seek financial redress for maladministration.
Let us know if this course of action resolves the problem?
