A migration question was created by kefkat
A question for Steve or anyone who can answer?.
Both myself and my husband are on long term sick. Our benefits are made up from different departments. My name is the main claim name as my husband moved in with me. I receive income support (as I did not have enough stamp paid) DLA at middle rate care low rate mobility My husband gets Incapacity benefit as he had paid enough stamp and his DLA now both high rates plus we also get carer premium various sick and enhanced premiums and so on. My question is what on earth happens when they migrate one of us to ESA but not the other as we won't be migrated together I can't see how they will do us both at the same time and it work together at the same time. So what benefits will be paid where to whom rates will we be mixed benefits? I hope this makes sense. I have only just thought of it tonight :S

We cannot offer advice to individuals about a specific benefits problem/question under any circumstances. To give accurate and reliable advice about a specific benefits problem/question, we'd need to know a great deal about your income, savings, health, household arrangements and more. To give advice without all this information would seriously risk misinforming you.

If you need specific benefits advice, you can download our FREE, 12 page guide to getting help with your benefits.

I know someone else in a similar situation. None of the guides have so far answered this. Have you tried the Disability Benefits Helpline on 08457 123 456 ( it use to be a freephone number ? ).

Hi Doris,

CD is right, we can't answer questions about what you may or may not receive.

But do bear in mind that contribution based ESA is almost identical to IB and income-related ESA is almost identical to income support. Most of the premiums payable in IS are also payable in income based ESA, with the exception of the disability premium, which is replaced by the work-related activity component or the support component in ESA.

So, in reality, it may not be so difficult to transfer couples, even if they aren't both assessed at the same time.

Good luck,

Steve

There is still a free helpline, namely the Benefit Enquiry Line.

Thank you all and I'll also phone that number so I am organized on whats what and what to respond to them if I need to. I have visions of this being a right mix up but maybe its just me being pessimistic however I would prefer to be organized
