gp report for dla renewal claim.

help? i have just been awarded dla again after renewal. is their any way i can get a copy of the gp report used as practice manager said no. i would like it to for my records for when my renewal comes up ,as was only awarded hrc & hrm for 5 yrs.can i request it from dwp dla? if so is their any time limits. thanks as all my past reports the gp gave me copies. thanks

I don't know how the Practice Manager can refuse, as the Government decided a few years ago that everybody had a right to see their medical notes and correspondence. You would normally have to make an appointment when the Practice would be free to provide a member of staff to operate the computer for you, and you would be charged for any photocopying of notes that you require, but most certainly you have a right to see your notes. I think if you persist in requesting this then you will get your way. The Practice manager is hoping you are going to go away and forget about it, as its a bit of a hassle for him/her to organise!! A doctor can withold medical notes from a patient if they consider that they would be harmful to the patient or if they contain information about a third party.

As the DWP will have this information about you with your claim, you could always apply for a Subject Access Request to them, it takes a few weeks to come through normally..www.dwp.gov.uk/privacy-policy/data-protection/ it needs to be signed so you have to print the form off first.

I was able to get a copy of my GP report from the DWP without any hassel. I just sent a written request and got it within a few days.

Hi Snowy, If your GPs surgery is not allowing you a copy of the report phone your local PCT(Primary care trust) speak to them and i am sure they will assisst you, The Practice manager at your GPs surgery are answerable to the PCT. Best Wishes
