Hello Derek,

Thanks for your input regarding the HB issue I mentioned in my early posting. My rent used to be £220 a wk - CT inclusive. When I asked for help with part payment of my rent, I was stil having about £9000 in savings. The Housing officer asked me to bring all necessary documents plus Bk Stat.

When he saw that bal. on my Bk Stat. he flatly told me that I had more than enough since I am single period. I indeed felt very bad and blamed myself going to them asking for small assistance. That is why when my landlady told me to move since I could not aford paying rent in full, I literally begged my friend to help me move and stay with him till my ESA issues were settled.

After my temporary success with the tribunal, my friend told me to continue living with him if wanted. I accepted his offer bec. I cann't imagine what will happen if I try to go and ask for social housing from the council given the past experience. Conclusion, I'm better of where I am now for the time being. Sorry for wondering off the topic.

Regards. Michael.

Just how does that £1 deduction per week against every £250 over the threshold work precisely?

£1000 is assumed to be worth £4 a week to you!!! How can £1000 equate to 20% income from the capital amount?

Not arguing that the above is wrong, I'm just actually asking the question. Was this fixed in stone by any chance in the 1970's when for a period of time one could just about make 20% on an investment?

By my reckoning £1000 would generate around 53p per week on an interest value of 2.75% if you could find it that is.

Again, no argument if you have plenty of funds, clearly benefit help would not be required if this were the case, but I just cannot once again in this Draconian system get my head around the calculations the Government make.
