I think we are missing the point here.

DLA has nothing whatsoever to do with working.

We are falling into the trap of believing the Government and Media propaganda, that DLA is work related.

I will repeat it.

It is not, it has nothing to do with work.

It is an ALLOWANCE not a benefit, given because of your extra financial need through your ill health .

That’s how misinformation works, say a lie often enough and it becomes the truth.

We start to then believe the lie ourselves.

Government aim achieved.

thanks for pointing that out, so it does in a way directly effect peoples plans/hopes for work

I'd just like to add to what "sunnybank" said and also the point that the DWP, Gov etc try and make us believe and feel guilty for claiming DLA while working. They need a wake up call and appreciate the immense effort and dedication involved in trying to maintain employment while dealing with a disability. I work and claim DLA, I don't claim any other benefit and my DLA helps me enormously to access and pay for therapies and treatments to ease my condition. I also use it for taxis as I find I suffer extreme discomfort travelling on buses to/from work.

I have just recently sent away my renewal and while it doesn't mention work I'm wary because of the government saying they want to reduce DLA claims. I'm not really feeling that hopeful, but will have to wait and see.

In that sense yes.

But my point was that the Government and Media are equating it in peoples minds as a work related benefit.

It is not

They plan to asess people as they have said in the same way they have asessed people for ESA.

That you can get it if you do some work is irrelevent, but yes there is the possibilty they will probably use the fact you are working against you.

They are two seperate entities one is work related. The other is an Allowance given to help us with the extra cost incured because of our illnesses.

Those illnesses and day by day problems are still there, even if they fail you or decrease you DLA.

Somebody is going to have to pick up the tab, which will possibly be more expensive at the end of the day

How can it be justified

That is what I was trying to say the Government are starting to get 'us' believing and accepting their propergandist lies.

Can just imagine IDS announcing DLA to be replaced with tax-allowances, whether that would be for the employer or for the employee... but perhaps nothing for those not employed ...
Could that be a logical future step, based on the confusion they've already been generating about the nature and purpose of "DLA"?
