I believe the advice is to have someone else there at the medical. The doctors are coming to the house. Can the other person present say things? i.e. if the person is in pain etc and forgets things or can not get there words out can they say things to the doctor?
From emp guide in DLA members section ..”As an experienced medical practitioner you will be well aware that some individuals find it difficult to express their problems in a clear and concise manner. Your role therefore is to help the claimant give as complete an account as possible of the help that the claimant/carer feels is needed
See the carer or relative alone for a separate statement if possible, to discuss facts… Also, this makes it possible to correct false impressions given by the claimant who may be confused as to the actual amount of help needed”.
Don’t forget in order to help prevent inaccuracies being written down (very common) it is possible write down your statement beforehand and have it attached to your report or just use it as a prompt.. The emp’s questionnaire used, is also in the members area to get an idea of the answers needed.
