I think I read on here that contribution based ESA is time limited to 182 days - but now I can't find the thread! Sorry! But is this true, and what happens at the end of the 182 days if it is true? I am concerned because my husband is presently in employment - earning about 20K, and so I do not think I would qualify for income based ESA. Please could you explain for me. Thankyou.

Unlike JSA(C), contributory-based ESA is not affected by the 182 day rule and therefore will continue for as long as you meet the conditions of entitlement for ESA.

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

It was on a thread called ESA - confused!, if I knew how to do a link I'd put it in.

As I said on that thread, ESA is not time-limited in the way that Contributions-Based JSA is. If you qualify for C-B ESA to start with, you carry on being qualified, it doesn't run out.

Hope that helps
