ESA turned down! was created by compactgirl
Hi, I'm a new member and joined today after being turned down for ESA. I attended a medical, which in my opinion was a farce as the doctor clearly had no idea of my condition or about my disability, and had not bothered to read my form.
I was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis last year, have a damaged liver from the drugs I was put on, a growth in my adrenal gland, and have 4 prolapsed discs. I was only awarded 6 points for mobility, and nothing for the pain, fatigue and discomfort I suffer when sitting down or standing, which I can't do for long. In the grand scheme of deteriorating health, I am now also clinically depressed.
I do have a job to return to once my treatment has been sorted out and very annoyed that I was turned down, as I would like to get back to work, and would if I was allowed to recover and adapt to my disability.
I have appealed, but have no idea what this entail. I'd like to know how the ATOS Dr reached the decision when they have clearly have not looked at the medical evidence?

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

Hi and welcome to B&W, sorry about the decision but you're in the best place for expert advice and support.
As a start take a look at the guide 'Employment and Support Allowance Appeals' from the Members Section which details the process. When you get your bundle from the DWP which contains the medical report you can examine it to see if there are any inconsistencies in it.
It's all in the guide.
