I just signed up to this site and really need some advice,
I have sciatica, and a degenarative disc, have recently had surgery, I have 35% range of movement in my back, reduced leg jerk and SLR is 40 degrees.
I am on morphine patches 70 mcg, tramadol, pregablin and diclomax, I may have arthiritis.
I have been awarded DLA of LCR and nothing for mobility, I can barely walk..
I had been suffering for a year before I put in for it, I'm a single mum and i'm struggling..
I am trying to pay for my car or my girls can't get to school.
Any advice please I'm really low

When were you awarded the lower rate care component of DLA, as this will make a difference as to how you would proceed if you intend to pursue the mobility component?

Hi it was on the 15 th this month have appeal form but don't want to lose LRC so not sure wether to appeal and if I do how to get my point accross.
Many thanks
Hi,
You could really do with some fairly urgent face to face advice from a Welfare Rights Adviser both to ensure the relative 'safety' of your LRC award and help you with the appeal if you do decide to proceed.
There are details of Advice agencies in the spotlights are at the top of the forum. Also there is the Citizens Advice Bureau and Community Legal Advice - details here:
www.communitylegaladvice.org.uk/
Unfortunately we cannot give individual advice on a forum such as this.
Regards
Pete

In my opinion it is very important to have proper recorded walking distances before the onset of severe discomfort.
You will need to prove as best you can that severe discomfort occurs, how quicky it happens, does it cause you to slow down, do you have to stop. How does a stop help, does it allow you to walk further without severe discomfort or does it simply give you a break from sever discomfrt.
You will also need to be clear about the manner in which you walk, do you limp, shuffle. Do you start of walking normally but slow down very quickly into a walk. What parts of your body is affected by walking, do you get tense, irritable. How do you feel after walking, how does it leave you, how long does it take to recover to something normal after a walk.
Is walking around your home as difficult as walking outside, how do you manage, do you use a walking aid, if not why not and would this help. If it dosnt or wouldnt help say why. Are you at risk of falling while walking, do you need physical support from another. Does it take you a very long time to walk a particular distance, what speed do you walk the distance in.
There are a lot of issues that need to be addressed regarding mobility and I know sometimes you wonder why you bother trying sometimes, but life has to be lived and walking has to be done, but if walking is only achieved at the expense of severe discomfort then something has to be used as a substitute for what your body cant do in a normal way.
Good Luck
Kathy
