DLA to PIP was created by Noodles
Hello again,

It’s been quite some time since I posted on behalf of my husband who now suffers from Dementia in the form of stage 4/5 Alzheimer’s so forgive me if we’ve missed any changes regarding being transferred from DLA to PIP.

My question is this.

In 1994 Hubby was awarde DLA in the form of High rate Mobility and Medium rate Care, This ‘Life time’ award was for hubbys chronic spinal arthritis and the effects it had on his life. Since then some 30 years ago Hubbys health has deteriorated. He now has Dementia and has been treated for it for several years now as this cruel disease slowly takes a hold of him. I was made aware of the changes to DLA in the form of PIP several years ago and to this day have received no notification of Hubbys apparent move from one Benefit to another namely PIP. As I understand things Hubby should already be on PIP or at least have asked to claim it but now in 2025 we have still heard nothing?. Hubby is now 72 years old and he will be 73 in August this year.

Has anything changed in the process which I am unaware of and if not should I just sit tight or inform the DLA department of Hubbys new health issues in the form of Alzheimer’s as a change of circumstances or whatever it’s called?

Sadly we where made fully aware there is no cure for Alzheimer’s some time ago and his original condition with his Spinal Arthritis still gives Hubby chronic pain which is now managed with Opioid pain killers in the form of Morphine solution.

Thank you and keep up the fab work you all do.

Replied by Gary on topic DLA to PIP
Hi Noodles

Claimants in receipt of DLA and born after 08/04/1948 will at sometime be asked to apply for PIP but at this moment in time it has been suspended, DWP are concentrating their efforts in asking legacy claimants to apply for Universal Credits.

If you receive the free B&W newsletter you will be notified when it is about to re-start.

If as you say your husband's condition has deteriorated you can apply for a change in circumstances.

The important thing for the parents to remember is that there is a big difference between DLA and PIP.

PIP was engineered to be more difficult to award than DLA and many DLA claimants will receive reduced awards or even no award at all on transfer.
