Council Tax Support when Migrating over to Universal Credit was created by Eveshell
Hello. We currently receive council tax support on our joint ESA claim. When we migrate over to Universal Credit will this element automatically be added to our claim or do we have to contact the Council Tax office to ask them to add it to our Universal Credit claim? If we do have to contact them, when is the best time to do this? Thanks.

Hi Eveshell,
ESA is a Benefit administered by the DWP. Council Tax Support replaced Council Tax Benefit and is administered by your local Council. Each Council in the UK can create their own terms and conditions for Council Tax Support.
You would have signed a form to claim Council Tax Support agreeing to inform them of any change of circumstances relating to your Benefits and income. So you will need to let the Council know when you have been officially informed of the start date of Universal Credit. They will then make any adjustments to your Council Tax bill.
