UC claim form question was created by Anneb
I get quite stressed reading some of the issues people ask when I look on the forum as they are similar to issues I have…so here goes another specific question I need clarification on please. I may need to claim Universal Credit for my adult son with natural migration. As this will need to be done as soon as he moves borough, whenever that is, I won’t be able to be in contact with someone on the Citizen’s Advice line:

So, when I create a Universal Credit account for my adult son who cannot do this, I will open it in his name but it will have my email address and phone number because I am his Appointee by the DWP, though at that point on the form it will not be clear to anyone that I am Appointee because there won’t be anywhere to write that I am his Appointee. Will there be a problem with that ?

Hi Anneb,

The DWP IT systems are becoming more integrated so they should be aware that you are your son's appointee. Make sure you input his National Insurance number on UC.
One of the UC initial questions is whether your son has an appointee.

You could phone Universal Credit on 0800328 5644 and ask if they have you registered as the appointee.

Hope this helps,
David

Thank you David. I hadn't realised that one of the initial UC questions is whether the claimant has an Appointee. Yes, I'll put son's NI number on the form. And thank you for that UC phone number.

When I phoned the ESA people to find out about the proportion of IR ESA and CB ESA my son gets, the agent I spoke to said that it was on the ESA info that I am the Appointee, he was actually very helpful, even sent me proof of benefit letter about the IR and CB ESA so I can show UC people when the time comes.
