What is migration to UC. Is it like I have to re-apply to equivalent to ESA was created by VIA
Dear fellow members and moderators,
Sorry for asking.
What is migration to Universal Credit when you are on ESA?
(And Child Benefit, and Child Tax Credit, and Housing Benefit)
I assume there will be question about our housing, how many people live with us etc.
But what worries me the most is the ESA equivalent part in UC?
- Does the migration imply we have to answer question to ESA like questions about our inabilities to work due to health conditions/disabilites? And if so, will UC ask ESA like question in a form, do we have to treat it like a new claim and enclose medical evidence and go into details into how our health conditions and disabilities affect us?
- is it possible to get anywhere a sample for of the Migration to Universal Credit?

Hi VIA,
All the old Benefits which are termed Legacy Benefits ( including ESA, Housing Benefit and Child Tax Credit ) are being removed and replaced with Universal Credit for everyone in a rolling schedule.
I would say that you should not worry. As you receive ESA, you should be treated with consideration as part of what the DWP call the Enhanced Support Journey.
The DWP have arranged for Citizens Advice to supervise the move to Universal Credit ( abbreviated to UC ) for those claimants who request assistance. The Citizens Advice Help to Claim adviser will organise your new UC claim and supervise it until you receive your first UC payment.
So you will not be interrogated about your circumstances or health conditions and you will not need to provide any new medical evidence. You will not have a health assessment or be asked to complete health questionnaires. Your current health status will be transferred across to UC.
It is important that you don't close your Benefits claims yourself.
You can contact us when you receive your UC Migration letter for further advice.
If you search online you can find examples of Migration letters.
Please remember Child Benefit and PIP are not part of Managed Migration and carry on as normal.

I think I will contact Citizens Advice Bureau for them to help me with my migration to UC.
But I am going to leave it till the last month to reply as I have three months to do so.

So if and when I get a migration notice I can ask citizens advice to support me? Anyone can in such a situation?
