Will claiming PIP trigger move to UC? was created by Careworn
Hi, the person I care for suffers severe anxiety and agoraphobia. They are currently on income based ESA in the support group.

They are considering applying for PIP but were advised this would be regarded as a change of circumstance and trigger being moved to UC. As this would not be a managed migration they would not be guaranteed the same conditions.

Can anyone confirm this and would it jeopardize being in the support group?

Thanks for any help.

Hi Careworn

Welcome to the forum.

You might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explains where everything is; www.benefitsandwork.co.uk/guides-for-claimants/faq/forum.

Who ever told them that are talking utter rubbish, applying for PIP is not regarded as a change of circumstances and will not trigger a move to UC.

The person you carefore should not apply for UC until they get the letter from DWP inviting them to apply, they should contact their local Welfare Rights Organisation; advicelocal.uk and seek advice before they do any thing.

Thank you very much for this advice. It was the local council's welfare rights staff who told him this several years ago.
