Buying and selling a house whilst on income based ESA AND PIP

Hi everyone

I am thinking about selling my flat and buying a house as I live in a very old building and the repair costs are becoming unmanageable. I am not sure if I am allowed to do this whilst on income based ESA AND PIP ( also have an SMI LOAN ) I would be getting a larger mortgage on the new house which I can afford. The sale and purchase will probably not go through at the same time so I will have the proceeds of the sale in my bank account for possibly 6 months. Will my ESA and PIP be impacted if I do this. I am happy to pay off the SMI loan from the sale proceeds

Hi Edith

I'm sorry, but your question is outside the scope of this forum, and you need to speak to a specialist welfare advisor who can look at your entire case. I've included the link to see if you can find an organisation in your area. advicelocal.uk/

PIP is not a means tested benefit - so it will have no impact on whether you sell your house or not.

From what you're saying your Benefits won't be impacted as long as you buy the house within the 6 months period. See below and link.....
Premises which are to be disposed of , The law
52579 Premises which a person is trying to dispose of are disregarded if the person is taking reasonable
steps to dispose of them. The period of disregard is for 26 weeks or longer if it is reasonable from the
