End of ESA was created by Susie
My husband has been claiming ESA in the Support group for many years. Neither of us have any other income or savings. I am on his claim as I am also disabled. We own our own home and receive council tax benefit. He is receipt of PIP and I receive DLA. He will reach pension age a year before me. I understand that we cannot apply for Pension Credit untiI I am 66 too. Please could someone explain what we need to do next? I am concerned that there will be no payment for me once the ESA ends on his 66th birthday. Our disabilities will continue and we will have to pay for dental and optical treatment plus full council tax although there will no longer be a provision for me.
I would be very grateful for some advice please as so very confused and anxious. Many thanks!

you need to get face-to-face advice from a local advisor what is best for your specific circumstances

but in principle, you would need to make a new claim for UC before your husband reaches State Retirement Age and his ESA ceases.

Get some advice, as recommended here, because it happened to us in October 23. My partner reached state pension age then and I won't ( under the current government rules) until a few years time. So they just pulled everything on his birthday! I received a call from my local councils "compliance officer" telling me ESA and HB had stopped with immediate effect and to claim UC for HB. Thing is it wasn't just for HB - it was an entire new claim on UC. With the help from the guides here I usually work things out but as I've been unwell and waiting to see consultant it's been 3 months of hell. Still not over for us so please get some advice before your partners state pension is due to be paid. I notified the ESA dept back in September 23. No advice or guidance was forthcoming.
