When to notify DWP of an inheritance?

Hello, we claim IR ESA which will be affected by an inheritance soon. When are we obliged to notify DWP? is it from the date of the death or once probate is granted and I actually receive the money. I’m worried that if I tell them too soon will they stop my payment’s straight away, in which case I would struggle to pay my bills. On the other hand I don’t want a large overpayment to build up if it is taken from the date of death.
I am having trouble finding any information online, all I can find is that you should notify DWP of a charge in circumstances within one month, but my circumstances won’t actually change financially until probate is granted even though on paper I have inherited now. I am so confused.
Any help or advice would be gratefully appreciated. Thank you.

Hi Kj2

Until you receive the money then the money is not yours to spend. You need to contact the DWP as soon as the money reaches your bank a/c.

If the inheritence is done through a solicitor then I would show any letters and bank a/c which details when you received the money.
