PIP and Autism was created by Femn1995
Hello,

I just wanted to post a positive outcome of my long battle for PIP.

My diagnoses are Autism (with comorbid depression, anxiety, CF/ME, ARFID), BPD, and Cyclothymia. The main basis of my PIP claim is the symptoms/traits of my autism.

I initially filed a PIP claim in 2019 and was awarded 2 points for DL and 0 for M. I asked for a MR, same result. I proceeded to tribunal but ended up not turning up due to my anxiety - and I was awarded SR for both DL and M even in my absence in April 2021.

In October 2022 I requested a review as I believed (on advice from my psychiatrist) I should be entitled to enhanced rate for both DL and mobility. Again I was refused at initial assessment - with some outright lies in the assessors report, as well as them removing some previously awarded points for no apparent reason. I requested MR, same result. I requested tribunal. I waited 10 months for my tribunal, and 4 hours before it was due to take place I received a call from the clerk saying DWP had reviewed my (180 pages of) evidence in support of my claim and offered ER for both DL and M. This was a great result and I accepted. They had still not awarded points under descriptors I had clear evidence for, however as ER had been awarded it was no point arguing these.

My only complaint is that they did not extend the review date despite my requests to do so, so I am due another review March 2025 and will probably have to go through all of this all over again!

Don’t give up, keep pushing back, and compile as much evidence from as many different reputable sources as you possibly can.

Hi Femn1995

Many congratulations on your successful PIP award - especially just before the Tribunal. That's so good to hear. And thank you for taking the time to post and telling the members of your experience. It's always good to hear of a positive outcome.

I'm sorry you couldn't get them to change the award end date. They don't often change them when people ask and the length of the awards has become shorter. Be aware that they can send out the review forms up to a year before the end date - so you could receive the next review form anytime from March next year. I'm sure you said this time, but emphasise once again that autism is a lifelong condition - that isn't going to change.

Congratulations again.

Thank you for posting this Femn1995, it's really encouraging as I prepare my first claim on both physical and autism grounds to read about your eventual success.
