PIP REVIEW QUESTION ABOUT MEDICAL EVIDENCE

Hello, I have my review coming in the post and I have no new evidence since the last time they did a review.
With covid most of my mental health treatments stopped and the next stage was going to be a request / refer all from my mental health doctors for a ADRU stay ( anxiety disorders residential unit ) as they said my disability was so long standing they thought only this may help. ( it may not but is the last option kind of thing)

Anyway can I just send in the last lot of evidence again. I did an appeal last time with your help and got an extended award and the high rate on both. I ended up sending years worth of medical evidence when I did a mandatory reconsideration to prove I have a long standing history as well as more recent things at the time as I was with the perinatal mental health team at the time.

I also had a very good supporting gp drs letter. ( now noticed on the form it says not to send in supporting gp letters )

I have seen services you can pay for private drs to write reports etc so if my older proof isn’t accepted should I get a private dr to write a summery? And how do I find them?

I’m not sure what to do.

Many thanks

Hi Hugo,

I'm not sure if you're aware, but there's some brilliant guides on here which will help in relation to telling you what is and what isn't required when making a claim. Me personally, I keep most of my evidence the same, other than if my medication is altered when submitting a claim. I look at it as, if I was awarded it before, then why shouldn't I be awarded it again? It happened to me where in 2022, I was awarded PIP via the courts because DWP declined both times. It was then stopped in June 2023 after an assessment with a health professional, and even at the MR stage, so I went down the tribunal route again and simply asked why it was stopped when my circumstances hadn't changed, other than to be put on more medication? I've just found out yesterday that I am to be re-awarded PIP again - my point being, sometimes you have to keep fighting till the very end.
I'm not sure about where you'd find a private Dr, but I'd imagine you could type it in Google with your area, and it'll advise you of who and where is available, if this is the route you wish to go down.
I am new to moderating, so hope my advice has helped advise you a little, but I'm sure if any of the more experienced mods have any further advice, they'll be happy to follow up from this.

Regards, Chris.

Thankyou for your reply. Totally understand what you mean it is crazy sometimes their assessments! It’s like they are fiction writers!

I subscribed to the video tutorials as well so will have a look over the weekend.

All the best

Hi Hugo

When they say - no supporting letters - they mean they don't want a letter that says they support your right to a particular benefit. A letter talking about you medical condition is fine.

It's up to you, but be aware the DWP are not a fan of letters from private doctors. You could get them to write a letter, but in reality, as they haven't known you since the last review, the DWP are not likely to take much notice.
