Hi
I posted here almost 6 months ago as I got zero points for everything. I was too ill mentally to ask for a MR or to even ask for the assessor’s report.
I’m signed off work at the moment and things are worse not better, I’m unsure if I’ll even be able to return to work. I’ve now been referred to MH services and assessments for autism and adhd.
In retrospect I think I would have filled the form in differently and I didn’t do well in the assessment as I’m quite a cheery person (masking, people pleaser) so I believe the assessor thought I was making the whole thing up and I was put on the spot and felt judged by her tone of voice (condescending) so I felt ashamed and told some untruths without meaning to (around housework, hygiene, preparing meals).
I wonder if it would just be easier to start a new claim now having the experience to look back and learn from. If I did this because my claim was first started about 9 months ago would they refer back to the answers provided then and pick up on any differences and question me on this, thus trying to catch me out? Or do you think I should ring for my assessor’s report and ask for a MR stating I’ve been too poorly before now?
It would obviously be lovely to have a backdated payment but I’d rather just have a successful claim and if that means starting over again then that’s fine.

I can't tell you what to do here - you will have to decide for yourself.
You have 11 months from the date on your decision letter to put in for a late Mandatory Reconsideration. You can say that you were too ill to put it in earlier. Be aware the DWP do not have to accept your explanation. I certainly wouldn't do this without asking for a copy of the assessment report. This is called a PA4. You need to understand what went wrong and what you need to argue. The success rates for MR are not good, and you could waste time going through the process. If you lied previously, even unwittingly, it might be difficult for you to fight against this. They cannot take any notice of any new assessments or referrals that have taken place since then.
You could just put in a new claim. They will be aware of your previous claim. Whether when it comes to an assessment, they will look back at your previous form, I cannot tell you, but at the end of the day, nine months have passed, and your argument is that you were in a bad place at the previous assessment and since then your condition has deteriorated. You also say that you were not well enough to put in for an MR. I would still try and get hold of your PA4 to see what the assessor said, even if you put in for a new claim.
I would also go through our comprehensive guide to PIP claims and reviews so you have a clear idea of what to write in the first place and you can get better prepared for an assessment. As you found out - assessors can be condescending. They also may not understand your condition. Now you have been referred for assessments in autism and ADHD you can add that information to your new claim and show what an impact this has on you and why you need additional help.

Many thanks. I think I may just start a new claim in a month or two, see how things go with work. I’m a support worker (20 hour contract and I’m not able to do my job well due to my issues and have put the guys in danger at times through errors) they used my job against me despite me writing in the extra information all the problems I have whilst in work and the impact it has on me the days following.
