PIP reassessment, telephone consultation, claimant has mental illness and autism

claimant has mental illness and autism, independent assessment services have written to claimant, informing them of a telephone consultation as part of claimants PIP reassessment. Last time their welfare benefit was reassessed, claimant was supposed to attend a face to face assessment, but due to overwhelming psychological distress, claimant attempted suicide, as they could not cope with it. Bearing this is mind, should this reassessment be based solely on paper based data rather than ANY aural assessment? or has a telephone based assessment been offered instead of a face to face assessment because claimant attempted suicide due to the previous face to face assessment? claimant in suffering anxiety and distress, and is unlikely to be able to aurally express themselves effectively, this has already been stated on the original reassessment form. your opinions will be appreciated.

Assessment appointments are made by administrators with no access to the claimant's form or evidence.

You need to get the claimant's GP to write to the DWP and the Assessment Provider confirming that the claimant would still suffer "overwhelming psychological distress" if required to participate in an assessment, they should also mention what happened during the last assessment.

You should be able to email a copy to the AP, you will have to write to the DWP their address will be on the letter about their PIP claim.

When the AP has the letter contact them about a paper review.

If timescales are short then you can re-arrange the first appointment, if you have to then leave it until the day before or the day before to contact them to ensure any second appointment is as far away as possible.
