ESA result! was created by GREENleaf
Dear B&W, thank you, I have had a successful review for my ESA, I am still in the support group and asked for and got a 'paper based' assessment only. YOur ESA guide was really useful.
However, when I called them to confirm the result, they said it was only until Feb 2025, which would be about 18 months !!??
It's been six years since they last reviewed it, due to covid, but 3 years before that. I have long term, provable conditions.
Why would my new award only last 18 months??? Do I have to appeal this??
Grateful but exhausted with it all.

Hi GREENleaf
Congratulations on your successful ESA review.
ESA reviews tend to be around 1, 2 or 3 years, although people can be reviewed at any time, and some people in the WRAG get reviewed after three months! I know you're in the support group, and those tend to be a three-year review length - I can't say why yours has been marked down at 18 months. If an assessment report has been completed (and one may not have been), you may find the answer in there, but I have noticed that quite a few members have reported being given shorter review lengths recently when a paper-based decision has been made.
You can challenge the review length by putting in for a Mandatory Reconsideration, and you should do so if you want to try it, but your chances of getting them to overturn it are very slim.

Sorry to have to correct BIS but you cannot request an MR on when your ESA will be reassessed!
ESA is an indefinite award with scheduled reassessment, there is no End Date for your award despite what you have been told by the DWP.
An MR must address an aspect of the Decision, as the review date is not part of the Decision it cannot be challenged.
