Recording a PIP phone assessment was created by fleen
Hi,
I've just received notice from Independent Assessment Service that I have a telephone Assessment next week. Does anyone know if its possible/allowed to record these calls? I always regret not asking for my last face to face assessment to be recorded.
Many thanks

Hi Fleen

You can ask for your assessment to be recorded. I wouldn't do it at the last moment in case your assessor says they don't have the ability to record or they are not willing to be recorded. Contact IAS and ask them to record it.

We also advise that claimants make a covert recording. Too often, people are told something has gone wrong with the recording - so it's always good to have a back-up. Don't forget to have a look at the Guide to PIP Claims and reviews - which will walk you through the assessment process and remind you of the types of questions you will be asked.

Thanks very much.
Sorry to be a pain but does anyone know how best to make a covert recording, they will be calling my landline?

My phone automatically records all calls which I had forgotten about. When I later realised I was able to make a transcript of the assessment.
The assessor wrote things in his report that were not said, and he constantly spoke over me, not allowing me to answer. So I was grateful I had proof.

It really depends on what type of home phone you have.

So, I recorded my last assessment, we have mobile sets connected to a base station that has the telephone line plugged into it, these allow hands-free usage, so the audio is available away from the handset, I used an app on my mobile phone to record the assessment with both my answers and the assessors being recorded, I just put each next to each other.

If your handset does not support hands-free then you will need to use a special microphone connected to a recording device.

If it will be on your mobile phone then there are apps that can make the recording directly.

However you make the recording you are under no obligation to tell the assessor, indeed if you do, then there is every chance that the assessment will have to be re-arranged.
