Uc50 - LCWRA - Activity 1 was created by MarkM88
Hi all,

I am trying to help a family member.

She struggles with lower back, hip and leg pain, is under the GP and Physio and takes medication.

She can’t walk far, has to stop every so often and then restart, if she completes the walking, once she is home, she is in severe pain.

I believe to get LCWRA you need to score the full 15 points on one descriptor? I think activity 1 sounds the closest to concentrate on.

Is it just a case of explaining the above and providing some real examples of what happens when she attempts that task?

Is there anything else she should be mentioning?

What about other activities, if there applicable, does she still write stuff for them too or just for activity 1 which is where she struggles - the mobilising bit?

I have a years subscription so wondered if there was a specific guide applicable to this?

Thanks so much.

Hi MarkM88

Welcome to the forum.

You might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explains where everything is; www.benefitsandwork.co.uk/guides-for-claimants/faq/forum

There are two ways of passing the test for LCW

1 - you can score 15 or more points in the assessment

2 - You can be treated as satisfying the assessment without having to show that you score enough points.

In order to qualify for the LCWRA Group you will need to;

* meet one or more of the relevant descriptors, or
* meet one of the associated Exceptional Circumstances rules.

The LCWRA Group descriptors and the Exceptional Circumstances are listed in the help-for-claimants/esa1 in the members area.

Two quick comments.

The Moving Around activity is all about the distance that can be mobilised, you don't mention how far your family member can walk but for LCWRA it needs to be less than 50m

Secondly, and importantly, this is not just a walking test, the distance that your family member can self-propel a wheelchair will also be considered, they do not need to be using one or indeed to own one for this test to be applied.
