Recording a Face to Face Assessment next week was created by Jan1955
Do members think its a good idea to record the assessment ?
was advised that if we want them to record it we would have to accept a change of date and possibly a telephone assessment
Also advised we could record it our selves as long as we tell the assessor, but I have read some assessors do not like to be recorded and will cancel the assessment.
What is the best device to record on if we go down that route

Providing you are making the recording for yourself and you do not intend to make it available to a third party then you do not need to notify the assessor that you are recording the call. You should make a covert recording of the telephone assessment.
If you do tell them then I think it likely that the call will be terminated and you could be classed as failing to participate.
1. Record the assessment surreptitiously. (Never trust that there won't be a problem with their equipment!)
2. Have someone with you (if you can).
3. Have a bulleted list of the most important things you want to say. (so you don't forget)
4. Tell the assessor if you're tired or anxious and need a break.
5. If you're feeling confused and didn't hear a question - ask them to repeat it. (It might give you a little time to think about the answer)
6. Be aware of the unexpected question. Nearly everyone gets one - I think it's a deliberate ploy to confuse you or say that you're not depressed because you can remember something from 20 years ago!
7. If you normally take medication and would have taken it before the assessment - do so and tell the assessor.
8. Have some water close by.

Hi Jan1955, backing up everything Gary says. Also, yes, never ever ever have any assessment without your own recording. A] it is a warning shot to them not to try funny stuff. more importantly b] even if they do you have got proof, yes proof. Back in the day of cassette tapes, and no reason why you shouldn't still at a F2F, I lugged in a holdall with two tape recorders and 4 brand new C90s, lots of batteries just in case not allowed to plug in[though that never actually happened] and extension leads. You need them to reach to the desk in middle of room from sockets on the walls.
I am eternally glad I did because the tape recording was the foundation of two appeals netting our adult child enhanced x 2 both times, would never have got it without due to the um, er, "factual inaccuracies" in the reports.
So don't let them bully you into agreeing to non-recording just to keep the date. I say this even though the second time we had duly notified, driven an hour, turned up at centre only to be kept waiting and finally rebooked elsewhere because none of five assessors would agree to it. My take is, do you want your assessment done by someone ashamed to be recorded?!

I like many others are wary of Assessors and DWP for their assumptions and inaccuracies.
Not being very tech minded what would be the best/ easiest recording device for us too use ?
I did smile at the image of you hauling all your stuff in LOL
This site and its members are a godsend to people on PIP Journeys

If you're having a face-to-face assessment, you can't record surreptitiously unless you have very good equipment that can take being concealed! Most mobile phones won't pick up information in a pocket or bag. You should ask the assessor to record your assessment and make sure you have made that request before the day. If you want also to record the assessment - you will have to take the equipment with you, and it will have to be equipment that can make a dual copy, so you can hand one over to the assessor at the end. I can't recommend any equipment, but you can't use your mobile phone for this.
