weekend assessment? was created by Rococo
Hello, I was advised i would be getting a paper assessment, despie requesting an in person one. I could not do phone or video as i have hearing problems. They stated in a response where they said they would do a paper assesment that they were wrong to set up a telephone interview but 'should have offered a video assessment' i thought nothing of it at the time as they were moving to paper, either way a deaf person has esactly the same hearing issues with video as phone.

I have had a letter arrive to day telling me i now have to do a telephone assessment, not only that they have set it up for a Sunday? how is it reasonable to make people do an assesment at the weekend? its also at 8am. I cannot do it anyway and will be putting in a complaint, but how is this acceptable? has anyone heard of this happening?

Hi Rococo

i'm sorry that you find yourself in this position.

I know you want to complain, but right now, I would concentrate on trying to change the type of assessment you have been offered. You can make a complaint later. Just complaining may not get them to change it. (I agree a Sunday assessment is not reasonable).

You have the right to ask for the ask for a change of assessment. State the type you want and why you want it. If they refuse, you have the right to ask a second time for a change of assessment. I'm sure you know the sort of argument you should make, and that is you cannot take part in the type you are being offered. Unfortunately, you don't have the right to demand a particular type - but you certainly will have a stronger complaint if they refuse. Do you have anyone who can make this request for you over the telephone? If you do, whatever is agreed, you should follow up with a letter confirming what was said.

Thank you BIS, I told them my preference ( if the interview was local as it had been previously) was in person, but I have never refused a paper assessment though I do not think it will be as helpful to me. But how is it reasonable to tell me two months ago that they will be doing a paper assessment then to surprise me with this? Also, i would have thought there is some sort of equivalent of 'quiet enjoyment' that tenants have, in that a person dealing with Government Departments should not be subjected to doing 'work' 8am on a Sunday? I have had to claim for a number of years and i have never heard of DWP or any department including HMCTS expecting Sunday availability, if anyone on these forums knows of any regulations/policy etc they could point to about this i would appreciate it for after i have dealt with the assessment.

Any ideas why this has happened anyone? are the DWP forcing weekkkend assessment to cover their backlog? I have written to them today and explained the issue, I am really upset about it as I dont think Capita/DWP has any right to tell me what i am and am not able to do, they refused the in person assessement as they said i would struggle to get there.
