ESA assessments was created by Bron
Hi, I have been a member here for many years and have found this group extremely helpful.

My question is ..I was put into the SG (income related ESA) In 2013 after going to Tribunal. The letter I received letting me know I had been placed into the SG didn't mention any time limits. I haven't been called for any assessments since. Should I be expecting one any time soon? I have recently been awarded PIP standard rate for both parts and was wondering whether this may trigger a new assessment for ESA. I have 8 years before my state pension kicks in.
Thanks in advance.

Hi Bron

I'm afraid your question is impossible to answer. It is surprising that you haven't had one for that length of time, but it does happen to some people. The DWP have a backlog of cases they are dealing with and are prioritising new claims so many reviews have been delayed. Being awarded PIP does not automatically trigger an assessment for ESA. (though some people find they come out at a similar time).

Hi Bron

Just to clarify, ESA is an indefinite award with scheduled reassessment, your current award will remain in payment until a new Decision is made.

The sole exception to this is the 365 day limit for the payment of ESA(CB) for claimants not in the Support Group.

So, unless you are anxious about a reassessment, perhaps you are concerned about the form going missing, then you do not need to contact the DWP about a reassessment, they will contact you when they are ready.

Contacting the DWP will not initiate a reassessment and they may be able to tell you when you might expect a new form, many members find that the date has already been deferred by several years.

As BIS has stated we have heard from members who have not been reassessed for many years, they don't want to contact DWP just in case it rocks the boat, but the choice is yours.

Thanks both, after going through the PIP assessment my brain is fried and can't face another assessment at the moment so I will just sit and wait and see what comes through the post in the future. My PIP award is until 2026 so fingers crossed my ESA just ticks along.

Hi Bron

As they say with ESA claims, no news is good news. ;)

As I am sure you will do, keep everything you used for your PIP application. That way you can throw it at them again when you are reassessed. PS. You lucky thing… I have been getting ESA for 11 years and have been reassessed 3 times I think.
