Award from DLA re ESA was created by Barbara
Good afternoon
I recived a letter drom DWP asking for another medical certificate on 20 September which I sent for another 3 months. This has been due to my awaiting notice of ESA approval sent in 7 July.
I have today received letter feom DWP: changes in ESA rates payable : £73.10 the same as previously except this now runs to 26 March 2016. : 365 days for contribution based unless You are in support group. I have clearly not qualified for support group despite my numerous illnesses, letters from consultants and a 5000 word statement with a request for exceptional circumstances declaration. They have not given me any explanation only that I can appeal after a mandatory reconsideration. Please could you advise as to how I go about getting this reconsideration and will I need more/ new letters from consultants. I am at a loss now as to shat they want, my consultants clearly state I am unfit for work.
Thank you iin advance.

As the letter indicates that you will continue to receive the ESA Assessment rate, then I believe that this is just one pf the two payment letters that ESA claimants receive each year, one at the beginning of the year covering the period starting April and one about this time covering the period from November onwards.

If it is one of these letter then you do not need to take any action, the right of appeal is always included in letters where payments are referred to. To be clear, no award Decision has been made on your claim yet so requesting an MR will be of no value.

You might want to chase with Maximus what is happening in regard your ESA assessment.

If this is not the subject of the letter, then we will need more information to advise.

Thank you for your prompt reply, Gordon. I thought reading this 3 page letter and telling me about MR within one month was the final decision. How confusing! Why do they refer to recent changes? There are none, the only contact has been the submission of another doctor's note at their request. They do like to keep one's stress levels at peak! I will file this letter with the rest if as you say I need do nothing about it.
Again thank you for your prompt reply.

The DWP use a range of standard letters to communicate with claimants, they are rarely clear and are often used to provide information that they were not designed to actually do, basically, you are not alone in being confused by their communications.

Good morning
Well after the panic of last week I have just opened a brown envelope and it is good news, I have been placed in the support group. You are absolutely right about the standard letters this is exactly the same but with a little more information. I want to thank you as without the help of your brilliant guides I'm sure the outcome would not have been so favourable. However, I do still have some questions please. My award has increased to £109.30 a week with £10 Xmas bonus. This is payable from 26 June 2015 until 3 December 2015. Does this mean I will have to reapply in December? Also, they have not informed me as to why they have placed me in support group, I have multiple illnesses which include cystic fibrosis, heart lung transplant, kidney transplant, adrenal insuficiency, cerebral bleeds, kidney failure along with associated complications from these. While I am grateful that I did not have medical I'm sure at some point this will happen. Should I ask for a report as to their conclusion or am I opening the flood gates? I am now stealing myself for the next hurdle when my life time DLA is reviewed!!
Again thank you.

Hi B,

Congratulations on your SG Award, and thanks for letting us know !! :cheer:

The SG Decision Notice letter does not include the recommended length of your SG award before reassessment.

The December 2015 date is purely for admin and is tied in with the date that your Xmas Bonus will be payable.

This Post should fully answer your queries.

Don't worry about requesting this information, it is dealt with by The DWP Data Control Dept, and many, many of our members have requested such information.

As you may know, all current Indefinite Award DLA recipients (who were under 65 on 08/04/13) will be transferred over to PIP any time over the next 2 years period.

See : Lifetime DLA claimants now being forced to apply for PIP nationally
