PLEASE NOTE, When you are assessing yourself, the law says that you only count as being able to do something if you can do it safely; to an acceptable standard; repeatedly and in a reasonable time period. Guidance also says that 'pain, fatigue, breathlessness, nausea and motivation' should all be taken into account.
Daily living

1. Preparing food

For example, joint pain, fatigue or dizziness may make it hard for you to stand in the kitchen. You may need to sit on a perching stool when preparing or cooking food.

Changes in your sense of taste or smell may mean it is hard for you to tell when food is cooked.  You may need help from another person to check it is safe to eat.

Invalid Input

2. Taking nutrition

For example, your memory and concentration may be affected by brain fog, and you may forget to eat unless someone else prompts you.

Loss of appetite, sickness or low mood could make you reluctant to eat.  You may need to be prompted to eat meals.

Invalid Input

3. Managing therapy or monitoring a health condition

For example, because of forgetfulness, you may need an aid (such as a timer or Dosette box) or prompting from another person to remember to take medication reliably.

You may need someone to prompt, supervise or help you whilst you do physical therapy to help with strength or stamina.  Or it may take you much longer than it should do to complete exercises because you have no-one to assist you.

Invalid Input

4. Washing and bathing

For example, you may be unable to wash and bathe reliably, because you are prevented from doing these tasks at particular times of day.  This could be because your pain is worse in the morning, or you are too fatigued to complete tasks later in the day so need help.

Invalid Input

5. Managing toilet needs or incontinence

For example, pain or pins and needles may make it difficult for you to wipe yourself without either taking more than twice as long as other people or needing assistance.

Invalid Input

6. Dressing and undressing

For example, you may need aids such as a long-handled shoehorn, button hook or zip puller because of pain or pins and needles in your hands/fingers.

Brain fog may prevent you from making appropriate choices of clothing to suit the time of day or the weather, so you need prompting.

Invalid Input

7. Communicating

For example, tinnitus, brain fog or headaches could impact upon your concentration so you may find it hard to follow what someone is saying.  You may need help to process the information.

Invalid Input

8. Reading and understanding signs, symbols and words

For example, headaches may cause blurred vision or sensitivity to light, which makes it difficult to read or to understand written information.

Invalid Input

9. Engaging with other people face to face

For example, brain fog may make it hard for you to join in conversations because you speak slowly, lose your train of thought and struggle to take your turn in conversations without support.

Invalid Input

10. Making budgeting decisions

For example, you may need support with complex budgeting because you cannot remember what you have paid or when a bill is due.

Invalid Input

Mobility activities

11. Planning and following journeys

For example, thinking about going out may worsen your anxiety or bring on new symptoms, such as palpitations or dizziness.  You may need someone to prompt and encourage you because of this.

Brain fog may make it unsafe for you to follow an unfamiliar route on foot without someone to accompany you when crossing roads or working out which way to go.

Invalid Input

12. Moving around

For example, your ability to stand and move may be severely limited by pain, shortness of breath or fatigue.

You may be able to stand and move a given distance, but pain and fatigue mean that it would take you more than twice as long as someone who does not have Long Covid.
