Tasks you struggle with on a day-to-day basis: I can struggle with every task due to child alters, acting, behaving and intelligence of someone of a child. They can come out at any time and take over everyday. I need specialist therapy and pay for this out of my pip. I also have a support worker. I have to do certain activities so that my alters have their needs met.
Expected income you will lose if the Green Paper cuts are imposed: Over £1000 a month if I loose PIP and then also loose health element on top. I would probably be hospitalised because I wouldn’t be able to pay for therapy nor would I be able to meet the needs of my alters who would then be out of control and harmful and distressed. I would loose my house and it wouldn’t be viable for us to live in this world anymore.
Expected problems if you tried moving into work, with support from a work coach: You wouldn’t send a child of. Age. 4 to work so how am I expected to work. I have 6 child alters who have the ability of a child their age. One alter is non verbal, another can’t read, write, another deletes work… I would be able to commit to getting to work on time or even going to work. They are not ok with people around them and stress causes more dissociation. An organisation wouldn’t take me on anyway, because as soon as I mention what I have that’s it… a no go. So putting me u dear stress to look for a job will do more harm than good and probably cause me to commit suicide… and that is the honest truth. A work coach wouldn’t have the right expertise and knowledge to cope with someone with Dissociative Identity Disorder… they could make the situation unbearable for both the client and themselves…. I could see a situation that they would have to call the police and get me sectioned…. How is that going to work…
Anything else to tell us: Dissociative identity disorder is a very rare complex condition needing very specialist help and support…. A work coach, an appointment at job centre or assessment centre or referral to primary care will not work due to the complexity and sensitivity of the disorder. It’s just not one person….its a person with multiple identities which all have their own characteristics and have already gone through trauma. They do not need any more trauma when having to live with this disorder is hard enough every day. You might see a capable person BUT that’s not how it is on a day to day basis and an assessor or work coach should think about the other alters involved and read professional letters as evidence.
