Nickname: TheHotRod
Age: 45-50
Main health condition: Both physical and mental health
Main conditions that affect daily living: Anxiety, Cepression, ME/CFS, Long Covid
Rate of PIP daily living component: Standard
4 point descriptor score: No
Possibility to score at least one 4-point daily living descriptor at the next review: Highly Unlikely
Tasks you struggle with on a day-to-day basis: Everything, but because I have a "variable condition" I can not predict what I will struggle with on any given day. On some days I may not be able to stand at the hob to cook, so I don't . On other days I may not be able to wash myself in the shower, so I don't. I need prompting to carry out basic tasks like changing clothes or taking medication. I need someone with me when I am able to leave the house in case I have a panic attack. None of these would score 4 points on their own, but combined with the unpredictable nature of my condition it means I can not plan to do any of those activities on any given day.
Expected income you will lose if the Green Paper cuts are imposed: I only receiveDaily Living Component of PIP, which is 25% of my monthly income, and this loss would leave me unable to manage my budget. More importantly, I would lose access to peripheral benefits and discounts which rely on PIP as the qualifying benefit such as my Disabled Persons Railcard (which also provides a discount for my carer, and I need a carer with me when I travel). So not only would my income go down, my costs would actually go up by losing my disability benefits.
Expected problems if you tried moving into work, with support from a work coach: I can not predict how my conditions would affect me on any given day, so I can not commit to a job with a rota. When I was last employed I suffered panic attacks during the commute because of overcrowded trains; I missed days or weeks of work because I could not get out of bed; I was penalised by my employer for working from home when I could not come in to the office.
