Possibility to score at least one 4-point daily living descriptor at the next review: Unlikely. I’ve been working for my employer for years, but my disability is making it harder to continue. Public transport is inaccessible, and I’m unable to get to work consistently. The lack of accessibility in my area and the delayed Access to Work application is making it impossible to see how I can keep my job, let alone meet the new PIP criteria. |
Tasks you struggle with on a day-to-day basis: I am wheelchair-bound, and the lack of accessible public transport in my area makes it incredibly difficult to even leave my home. The time, effort, and stress of trying to get into work every day are overwhelming. My Access to Work application has been pending for eight months, and I’m not getting the support I need to be able to get to work safely or on time. Even though I’m able to do my job at home, my employer insists that everyone must be in the office, and I’m struggling to understand why they won’t allow me to work remotely. |
Expected income you will lose if the Green Paper cuts are imposed: If I lose PIP, I would lose what little support I have. The financial support helps me with care, transport, and adaptations, and losing that would leave me with nothing. I already face severe challenges trying to access work, and the lack of support would push me further into isolation. It’s not as simple when the workplace and the transport options are inaccessible to me. Without PIP, I won’t be able to afford the necessary support to even attempt to go back to work, and I fear that I may lose my job altogether. |
Expected problems if you tried moving into work, with support from a work coach: They should focus on other areas and leave PiP aloneI’ve had issues with my Access to Work application taking far too long eight months and still no resolution. The government should be focusing on making workplaces more accessible and helping employers understand that disabled employees can work remotely if needed. Instead, I’m left struggling to meet my employer’s rigid requirements, even though I could perform my role from home. There seems to be a lack of understanding from both my employer and the government about the realities of disability and employment. |
Anything else to tell us: The issue isn’t just PIP reform it’s the lack of support that people like me face daily. The government needs to be focused on improving accessibility, both in public transport and in workplaces, rather than cutting vital support for people who need it to survive. Employers need to be encouraged and incentivised to create flexible work environments for people with disabilities. In my case, I can do my job remotely, but my employer’s insistence on everyone being in the office is a major barrier to my employment. If anything they should be financially penalising employers that do not comply for reasonable adjustments. |
