Nickname: Bearly Awake
Age: 53
Main health condition: Physical health
Main conditions that affect daily living: ME
Anxiety
Depression
Arthritis
Rate of PIP daily living component: Standard
4 point descriptor score: No
Possibility to score at least one 4-point daily living descriptor at the next review: Very unlikely as I've never achieved that before.
Tasks you struggle with on a day-to-day basis: Almost everything when suffering severe brain fog - conversation, following directions, instructions, even doing things I've done many times before.
Extreme exhaustion makes it very hard to do anything outside the home due to the effort involved - eg walking, shopping, socialising
Frequently too tired to cook or dress myself.
Expected income you will lose if the Green Paper cuts are imposed: £600+
It will mean I can not cover all of my bills and will certainly have no disposable income to cover such items as clothing, footwear, replacement household items, cab fares and - most importantly - I will not be able to afford ready meals or take away food at those times I cannot manage to prepare anything for myself.
Expected problems if you tried moving into work, with support from a work coach: My memory is appalling - I do not learn new things easily and would likely fail my probation period and I'm concerned that would lead to sanctions, which would lead to homelessness not just for me but also for my fully employed housemate. I currently have 2-3 hours per day of useful energy which I use every bit of in simply getting dressed, washed and attending to regular tasks like laundry. I have an uncontrolled sleep most afternoons, again, not encouraged at work. I do not have my own transport so my energy would be considerably drained just walking or taking public transport to the job.
Work coaches do not offer 'support', they offer pressure and threats. My former work coach thought my problems would all be solved by a mobility scooter, demonstrating the DWPs general ignorance about specific conditions. I would further expect to be extremely unwell, stressed, depressed and anxious as the untenable situation wears me down over the course of the first couple of days. A major collapse in my health can take 3 -18 months to return to my baseline (I moved house 2 years ago and for 18 months I had less than an hour per day of useful energy).
Anything else to tell us: I did everything right. I went to uni, got a job, got promoted, bought a house, insured everything - the house, the contents, my health, my employment status, all to no avail. ME is not a 'critical illness' according to my policy, so now I'm in insecure accommodation living with the constant threat, intrusion and belittlement dished out by the DWP and the government. I hate that they can invade my bank account at a whim -a major violation of my rights - and I hate being depicted as a scrounger when I have worked and paid plenty of tax at every possible opportunity.
