Tasks you struggle with on a day-to-day basis: I can’t grip a knife, I often drop things, so cutting food is a challenge. I no longer cook using a hob or an oven as I burn myself so often and can’t now bend to get things in and out. I had been using a microwave for a few years but now can’t as I kept forgetting to remove pierce the food container. I can’t get in the bath to have a shower, even with grab rails, unless someone is there to steady me, I can’t stand to use the shower attachment and I can’t hold the shower to wash my hair. It’s incredibly embarrassing to have to have help with this. I am not very mobile and struggle to get up and down the stairs. My bathroom is on the ground floor and I am prone to falls so I sleep in the living room because I can’t safely get to the bathroom in a timely manner. Even doing this, I have ‘accidents’ and it’s very upsetting. I have not driven my car for several years now and rely on someone else to drive me to appointments. I do not go out socially, I am very isolated. |
Expected income you will lose if the Green Paper cuts are imposed: If I lose PIP then I will apparently also lose LCWRA too and help with my Council Tax. I’m not good with numbers these days but I think I will lose in the region of £700 per month. |
Expected problems if you tried moving into work, with support from a work coach: I am in my early 60s, until recently I’ve worked all of my adult life and the job I did involved having certain accreditations which have now lapsed. I’d have to to be re-accredited to even be considered but with the issues I now have I doubt I’d be able to do this successfully. I struggle to move about, I have bathroom ‘accidents’, I forget things, I become overwhelmed when in busy situations, I have limited concentration. |
Anything else to tell us: I’m terrified about what may be ahead for me. I am scared that I will lose my home. I really didn’t expect to be in this position in my early 60s, and although I’m incredibly grateful for the help I’ve received from the Welfare Stare, I really thought I’d still be at work and approaching retirement at this point, not existing on state benefits and being made to feel like a parasite because of my deteriorating health. |
