Nickname: Carol
Age: 45-50
Main health condition: Both physical and mental health
Main conditions that affect daily living: Fibromyalgia, and cognitive dysfunction (fibro fog).
Rate of PIP daily living component: Standard
4 point descriptor score: No
Possibility to score at least one 4-point daily living descriptor at the next review: Unlikely. I need support but I don’t think I meet any single 4 point descriptor. My needs are real but spread out, and easily dismissed because they’re invisible.
Tasks you struggle with on a day-to-day basis: I struggle to process information, remember instructions, and get through basic routines without confusion or exhaustion. I drop things, forget appointments, and regularly need help managing food, medication, and even just getting out of bed. I need rest after doing almost anything physical or mental.
Expected income you will lose if the Green Paper cuts are imposed: Losing PIP would cut off around £400 a month that I use for support services, travel, and equipment. It would leave me completely isolated. I can’t sustain even basic independence without that help. It would force me further into debt and worsen my health.
Not to mention, of course, all the other lines of support that just purely by getting PiP offers somebody like me it’s not even the finance. It’s the fact that by having the PiP award even just healthcare becomes more accessible.
Expected problems if you tried moving into work, with support from a work coach: I used to work in central government. I was dismissed on medical capability because they refused to implement the adjustments I needed like part-time hours and remote working, even though these were completely reasonable. I was let go by the very system that’s now saying I should be “well enough” to work again. Do I now get to demand my job back, or should I be suing them for disability discrimination under the Equality Act 2010?
Anything else to tell us: I didn’t choose to stop working my employer pushed me out. They ignored occupational health advice and breached their duty to make reasonable adjustments under the Equality Act.
Now they want to take away my lifeline support too. I’m being punished twice for being disabled once by losing my job, and now again by losing PIP.
I have actually come to the understanding that the government actually just want to dismantle human rights altogether and leave us with none
