Nickname: Fc3452 |
Age: 63 |
Main health condition: Physical health |
Main conditions that affect daily living: Was involved in a serious road traffic accident whilst employed as a member of the emergency services.massive soft tissue damage to many major parts of my body, inc: Spinal damage,C7/C8,+ L4,L5,S1. Damage to both hands, left shoulder, left leg especially knee.plus internal. Results mean very poor mobility, lower body functions especially impaired. Very poor grip, which is made worse when I move my neck in certain directions due to the C7 + C8 damage.Other assorted injuries which add to problems, including increasing hearing loss in right ear Prognosis for never any improvement, especially as now suffering from arthritis as well as the previous injury/traumas |
Rate of PIP daily living component: Enhanced |
4 point descriptor score: No |
Possibility to score at least one 4-point daily living descriptor at the next review: 50/50. Lower body is worse and have greater difficulty dressing or general hygiene in that area, but this doesn’t seem to have been taken in to account?. With poor grip, that makes things harder especially dressing and washing upper body as well |
Tasks you struggle with on a day-to-day basis: Like most of us,I live in constant and sometimes very debilitating pain, especially in winter. First main problem is mobility. Without various different prosthetic supports I couldn’t even get downstairs let alone walk. Dressing and washing especially lower half is difficult as is toilet needs. With reduced grip in hands, although I have been able to cook,I need larger hi grip utensils to make it easier. Heavy pans are a no go and I certainly can’t open jars and such like which I have to get my wife to help with. Gardening and the outdoors as limited to me as indoors. Physical exercise almost impossible |
Expected income you will lose if the Green Paper cuts are imposed: Minimum £800. My enhanced pip and carers my wife gets to help me. I hope to keep mobility side of allowance, especially as we have Motobility vehicle. I could not survive with that loss, might as well be dead which I’m sure the government would like. I get a small pension only as I did not do much time in the emergency services before my accident, this is not enough to survive on and I am already below what is classed as low earning allowance. My wife only gets carers, nothing else |
Expected problems if you tried moving into work, with support from a work coach: I would love to work, but,as most of us know, firstly, employers are reluctant to take on disabled people. I can agree with some,I myself could be a liability. I have problems walking and with stairs. I find it hard to support myself physically without aids and yet cannot sit for too long and have to stand regularly as my body stiffens and becomes painful. My hands and joints suffer severe arthritis so although I can type,I find it hard to write. Couple that with difficulty in hearing and age (63) there isn’t much in my favour, yet I have tried working in a number of roles from shop work to road safety, nothing has been suitable to my physical needs. |
Anything else to tell us: As mentioned ,I am 63 years old, with numerous physical injuries, preventing me from pursuing any kind of normal life. Yet I refuse to give up and keep trying to do things, even pushing through pain barriers. I get some “3’s” in my PIP applications, probably because i refuse to give in,I get well over the points total previously required, but I am obviously going to be penalised if I can’t get at least one 4. I can’t get a job and I’m too old for most anyway even if I was fit.I might as well be dead for all they care. My only hope is that my next review isn’t until 2032,and they don’t bring it forward,so by then my wife and I will at least get our state pensions, but, this doesn’t help the rest of us,like me who are younger. We are obviously a thorn in the governments backside. It’s obviously a money saving exercise on the government part, they don’t care about us.I had a reply from my local MP about the PIP after I sent a message of concern. No support, completely impersonal, obviously pulling the party line. |
