Nickname: onlyme66
Age: 58
Main health condition: Physical health
Main conditions that affect daily living: Spondylosis
Anxiety
Rate of PIP daily living component: Standard
4 point descriptor score: No
Possibility to score at least one 4-point daily living descriptor at the next review: Unlikely
Tasks you struggle with on a day-to-day basis: Getting in or out the bath
Washing below the waist
Dressing my lower body
Walking more than 200mt
Doing most tasks, some not mentioned above, if it involves being on my feet for longer than 10 minutes, without causing substantial pain
Expected income you will lose if the Green Paper cuts are imposed: £73 per week
If I’m not able to get help washing/ dressing my lower body, my personal hygiene will be affected. I score 2 or 3 points in my assessment. I think anyone who needs help/assistance with lower body should score 4. (perhaps upping the points here is what needs to be addressed, rather than removing the 4 points in 1 area!) Maybe this points system should be raised.
I don’t work but if this was a possibility, I wouldn’t want to, go into work without a high standard of personal hygiene. Keeping this living component, would help me achieve an adequate level of hygiene & effectively give me confidence to attend & travel to work. U can work & get pip, so why does the gov. Keep saying it want to help us work. Taking this payment away because I don’t get 4 in 1 question, therefore lose eligibility, would have the opposite effect on me being able to work. Be honest, Who would want to go into a work place, if the didn’t feel clean, or if they was aware of being smelly. Apart from that leaving me feeling/wanting I was not fit to work or attend a work places, I would suffer with personal hygiene all the same. It would definitely affect my anxiety & my mental health, which is pretty poor anyway. Getting help with dressing/washing(lower body) definitely has helped improve my mental health. I’ve been getting pip for about 1 yr & feel much better all round for the help it offers me
Expected problems if you tried moving into work, with support from a work coach: They’re just interested in numbers they achieve. They’re not interested in the person. They have to follow rules given & are puppets, tangled up with red tape, created by new government & endless changing laws. They’re just humans. How can they possibly keep up with these changes. Let alone have a moment to reflect or have any compassion for the people they see. Not that it’s there job ever. They’re to busy learning, yet another change in the system. They have to follow & have no say. They will be driven by numbers not affects on a human
Anything else to tell us: I’ve suffered with back problems, after an injury when I was 18. I’m now 58 & have been receiving pip to help me for around 1 year.
I won’t be eligible when the 4 points come in. I’ll not be able to keep up my personal hygiene. I need help/assistance with washing, dressing my lower body & getting in or out a bath.
Perhaps the points system could be reviewed, so that people needing help with lower body, could score 4 point. Or the 4 point the government wants be lowered to 3. There’s many options the government could look at to make the system work, to help them make a saving, which I do understand, but without making the already difficult situation with claims, impossible for people who won’t get 4 point, but still desperately need this benefit to help improve their lives
