Nickname: Debbie
Age: 60-65
Main health condition: Physical health
Main conditions that affect daily living: Fibromyalgia, osteosarthritis, inflammatory arthritis, cervical spondylosis
Rate of PIP daily living component: Standard
4 point descriptor score: No
Possibility to score at least one 4-point daily living descriptor at the next review: Unlikely. There is no consistency in the outcomes of PIP assessments, the assessors have subjective views on daily living needs. I have nver scored 4 points in any category, but score points spreads ovewr the descriptors
Tasks you struggle with on a day-to-day basis: Along with significant pain, I suffer with an energy impairment which means I only have a few hours a day when I can be gently active. I struggle with cooking very badly becasue of the energy it takes and impact on joint pain and tremors, having to resort to ready meals very frequently. I get brain fog and forget to take my medicines, or cant remember whether I have taken them. Showering/bathing is exhausting even though I have a seat in the shower and washing aids often I do not have the energy to even have a wash. Likewise with dressing, I tend to wear the same clothes several days in a row to save energy it takes picking outfresh clothes. I am very slow to dress because of stiffness and pain. I need help to get to social engagements unless they are very local, but I dont like to ask, because if I go into a 'crash' (which happens daily and causes me to ache all over as if I have flu,) I will need to leave and go home to bed, which would inconvenience the person giving me the lift.
Expected income you will lose if the Green Paper cuts are imposed: zIm not entirely sure how to work it out, but I think the figure is about £122.40 per week. This would have a devastating impact. I wouldnt be able to afford to run my car which is essential for me to engage with the outside world as I live in a rural area with infrequent unreliable public transport. My car houses my mobility scooter too, without the car there is nowhere to store my scooter, so that would go too. My ability to walk is very limited so Id become isolated and despairing. I wouldnt be able to afford much needed ready-meals or heat my home (I can barely afford to frugally heat it now)which would be disastrous as my body cant regulate its temperature properly.
Expected problems if you tried moving into work, with support from a work coach: Im genuinely unable to work and no-one would employ me given my limitations. The work coach would be a wate of tax-payers money, I expect Id be sanctioned for not being able to do what was asked of me. Then I wouldnt be able to afford to live independently and would have to move in with a friend or relative, which I would hate to impose on them.ories
Anything else to tell us: This Green Paper is riding roughshod over the UN Charter for the Rights of People with Disabilities, which the UK ratified in 2009. Thousands of disabled people will become destitute and unable to access public services if they do not score 4 points in one category of PIP Daily Living. Does the government understand this? Do they not care? Do they think disability is a lifestyle choice? Our hard-won rights have been eroding since 2010 when the Tories came to power and we are aware of our history, of what can happen when we are dehumanised. By attaching a completely inapproriate and insulting moral 'rationale' for these disgraceful cuts, this government is ensuring that the dehumanisation process is well underway.
