The latest statistics published by the DWP and covering the period November 2018 to October 2023 indicate that 570,000 (90%) of 630,000 claims made by DLA claimants moving to PIP during that time had an assessment.

However, ‘assessment’ can include:

  • a paper-based assessment by a health professional who either doesn’t contact you or calls you just to check a few bits of information
  • a telephone assessment
  • an assessment via video call
  • a face-to-face assessment

Since the COVID-19 pandemic, face-to-face assessments are far less common than they were before 2020.  So, whilst you may be assessed as part of your move from DLA to PIP, this is not always the case, and any assessment may not be face-to-face.
