The DWP have published the latest quarterly figures for personal independence payment. They show that the success rate for new claims is rising, but it is falling for DLA to PIP reassessments
The statistics show that 51% of new claimants who were assessed received an award in October 2020, compared to 47% a year ago.
However, the proportion of DLA to PIP reassessments receiving an award, where the claimant had an assessment, has fallen from 75% to 70%
The vast majority of new PIP claimants receive a short award of two years or less.
In October 2020, nearly three quarters (74%) of claims awarded were short term (0 to 2 years), less than one in ten (7%) were longer term (over 2 years) and less than one in ten (7%) were ongoing
New claim clearance times have risen to around 22 weeks from registration.
Mandatory reconsideration success rates now stand at 42%.
The numbers of new PIP claims and reports of changes of circumstances have risen. But DLA to PIP reassessments and mandatory reconsideration requests have fallen.
Latest monthly figures for October 2020 show:
57,000 registrations for new claims (12% higher than October 2019)
8,200 reported changes of circumstances (11% higher than October 2019)
11,000 registrations for DLA reassessments (32% lower than October 2019)
32,000 planned Award Review registrations (20% lower than October 2019)
17,000 MR registrations (around half (52%) of the level a year earlier)
