The DWP say that the £10 Christmas bonus should normally be paid in the first full week in December, but we are now well into the second full week in December and we are still hearing from people who haven’t had theirs yet.

Have you had yours?  Let us know in the comments below.

How the Christmas bonus shows on your statement

The payment will normally show up as a single £10 payment with the reference ‘DWP XB’

It was originally introduced in 1972 and it was a payment of £10 way back then as well.

According to the Bank of England’s inflation calculator, if the Christmas bonus had kept pace with inflation it would now be worth £108.63.

Who is eligible

You must also get at least one of the following benefits in the ‘qualifying week’ - this is normally the first full week of December:

  • Adult Disability Payment
  • Armed Forces Independence Payment
  • Attendance Allowance
  • Carer’s Allowance
  • Child Disability Payment
  • Constant Attendance Allowance (paid under Industrial Injuries or War Pensions schemes)
  • Contribution-based Employment and Support Allowance (once the main phase of the benefit is entered after the first 13 weeks of claim)
  • Disability Living Allowance
  • Incapacity Benefit at the long-term rate
  • Industrial Death Benefit (for widows or widowers)
  • Mobility Supplement
  • Pension Credit - the guarantee element
  • Personal Independence Payment (PIP)
  • State Pension (including Graduated Retirement Benefit)
  • Severe Disablement Allowance (transitionally protected)
  • Unemployability Supplement or Allowance (paid under Industrial Injuries or War Pensions schemes)
  • War Disablement Pension at State Pension age
  • War Widow’s Pension
  • Widowed Mother’s Allowance
  • Widowed Parent’s Allowance
  • Widow’s Pension

What to do if you haven’t got your Christmas bonus

The DWP say you should contact the Jobcentre Plus office that deals with your benefits or the Pension service.  Unfortunately there does not seem to be an online form you can use to report non-payment.

    * UPDATE *

I am posting this information in the hope it could at least help one person to uncover where their 10 pound Christmas payment maybe and to rightfully be given it.  I made 3 phone calls yesterday to various departments of the DWP which took me in total 2 hours, in the end each department blamed another department, finally I told department 3 I was extremely unhappy and I demanded an escalation to management level as I refused to keep being sidetracked back to departments I have previously spoken too.

Finally after a total of 7 hour day I received a call from management level who informed myself that I was correct I was entitled to the 10 pound, and not only was that music to my ears that the DWP actually owed myself 3 years of unpaid Christmas bonuses and that 30 pound would hit my account within 5 days, which is brilliant news, but the main question I wanted answered was why I was never given it?, now this was the reply from management level DWP, allegedly claimants who should receive any kind of help ie Cold weather payments and Christmas bonuses have a marker on their claim which allegedly the system should generate these payments automatically, but apparently the system had a update a few years ago and for some unknown reason removed claimants markers hence why the above payments are not being paid.  Do I agree with that? I have no proof to disagree, but I did explain to the DWP representative that if this is the case then this is not good enough that people have wrongfully been left without money due to thier system failures, obviously his advice was that individual claimants will have to chase thier own payments up.

So my advice and this is only my personal opinion is ring the benefits office at the top of any correspondence letters, and if you feel you are not being heard or they are not interested then you be assertive and you demand an escalation to management level for an investigation to why you never received the 10 pound or any other payments you may not of received and at some point someone will have to contact you regardless and give you an explanation.  Hope this can help someone.

    Thanks

If it helps anyone out I have personally myself escalated this to the management of the DWP, it has transpired this morning that I have not received this Christmas bonus for 3 years when rightfully I have been told that I should of received it.  I have also informed the DWP that this is totally unacceptable and I have told them that numerous people on this thread have not received the Christmas bonus either and I want answers and we all want what we are rightfully entitled too.

@Chris It depends on what benefits you are in receipt of to whom is the qualifying office to pay the 10 pound.  It took myself ringing 3 separate departments, but in the end I got it.

My Mother has been receiving Disability Living Allowance for 23 years. She has never received £10 Christmas Bonus. I have looked back on her Bank Account for last 7 years no payments ever received. Unable to look any further. She called them this morning told not eligible only people who get Attendance Allowance not Disability Allowance.

I thought I wasn't getting it but it's actually been added to my ESA payment for the last few years. They have also stopped sending out a letter about it. May be worth checking your benefit payment amounts for December to see if you got £10 extra one payment.

I havent been getting mine for years. I contacted my MP and got 7 years back once. But problem kept happening. A couple of years back I told them again I hadn't had it and they went trawling back through my claim and said I owed them money for my pension increase which I had informed them every year about. I have just sent two hours on the phone now to tell them I have not had it again. I wish I hadn't bothered but I haven't had cold weather payment either. Now I will be stressed all day worrying that I have made things worse. I hate dealing with them they make my life a total misery

@Emma It is PIP you need to speak too.
You do not get this if you are just on UC.
I have not had mine yet, in the past no problem, Had a letter to say I will get it, I think my problem is I get ESA and PIP and both these benefits qualify but you only get one so they must be messing about who is paying it.
Phone call in the morning to sort it out
