The Creen Part has published its manifesto today.  It would be hard to imagine a more stark contrast than the one between the Green Party and Conservative Party manifestos.  Whilst the Tories are keen to ramp up sanctions and slash spending on disability benefits in order to fund tax cuts, the Greens want to give all disability benefits claimants a 5% rise, end sanctions and work towards introducing a universal basic income.

The Greens say that they would:

  • Restore the value of disability benefits with an immediate uplift of 5%.
  • End the unfair targeting of carers and disabled people on benefits.
  • Increase carer’s allowance by at least 10% a month.
  • Oppose plans to replace Personal Independence Payments (PIP) cash payments with ‘vouchers’, and in the long term reform intrusive eligibility tests like PIP.
  • Increase Universal Credit and legacy benefits by £40 a week.
  • End the unfair five-week wait for benefits which is pushing people into debt.
  • Abolish the two-child benefit cap and lift 250,000 children out of poverty.
  • Ensure that pensions are always uprated in line with inflation and keep pace with wage rises across the economy.
  • Scrap the bedroom tax.
  • End benefit sanctions.
  • Introduce a Universal Basic Income, although this would be the work of more than one parliament.

Same thoughts for these as the Li/Dems.  Wishful thinking

Never going to establish a government so their manifesto is of no significance.

@Lynn Sheridan They are not likely to form a government but more green MP's means they can contribute to parliamentary debates and improve things. Vote tactically if possible but if your vote is unlikely to make a difference to results, do vote for what you want to see - every extra vote for Green party candidates helps them get into the media (and maybe save their deposit!).

The green party (hearts) are in the right place, I wish they could be in government and not a small party.

Every disabled person / carer must vote, there are enough of us to oust the Tories at the Ballot box. Why they continue with their extreme proposals towards vulnerable people with an election looming is stupid beyond belief .
Make a difference people vote the Tories out

@Pat I'll be voting very soon, I always vote and always via postal vote (I have autism, chronic pain, depression and anxiety) so I have always (since I was 18 yrs old, now I'm 30 yrs) saw through tories and a few labour MPs and the radical right.

I feel much the same about this one as I did about the Libdems, it's lovely to wish for, in fact it's upsetting really because we know this is a million miles away from what we'll actually get. It's like dangling a beautiful carrot that will be forever out of reach.

It's a real shame they won't ever form a government they are a very caring party and this is what we SHOULD have from labour. Labour may not be quite as bad as the Tories but it's certainly not the party I was once a member of, I'm not even sure until I see the manifesto if I can even bring myself to vote for them

@Simon Having a majority is what forms a government. What you're advocating could lead to no-one having enough seats to form an outright majority government and we'd end up with another coalition. Depending on who is the biggest party it could be a really bad one. First things first, get the Tories out, *then we fight for proportional representation and real change.

@Rainbow If everyone has this attitude, then no they will never form a government. If enough people voted, perhaps in time with enough seats gained it may be possible.

@Rainbow Don't vote for them then, vote for who you believe in.  Even if they don't get in, at least your vote is counted towards the policies you believe in.

I think it'd be a mistake for Labour to have an overwhelming majority, as they'd just be able to do whatever they want.

@Anon Of course we can afford it.  Tax the richest, close the tax loopholes.  Tax huge corporations like Amazon, to level the playing field and give small businesses a chance again.

@Old Mother It's 'pie in the sky' unaffordable nonsense. The country just couldn't afford these plans and taxes would be hiked on working people.
