We’ve divided the test into six steps, although no-one should have to take more than four of them. We even do the maths for you and you can have a copy of the results emailed to you if you choose.
You should bear in mind, however, that how you assess yourself and how the DWP might assess you in the future could be very different. As our members only article ‘Shockingly harsh employment and support allowance doctors’ demonstrates, the DWP may interpret the regulations quite differently to the way you would. This seems to be especially the case in relation to mental health.
However, the final decision about whether you qualify ultimately rests with the appeal system, if you are unhappy with a decision and challenge it. Your own understanding of how the descriptors apply to you should be listened to by a tribunal, even if it isn’t considered seriously by the DWP.
