Disability Rights UK (DRUK), a charity set up to fight for disabled people’s rights, has signed a major contract with Maximus, the company which carries out the medical tests for employment and support allowance (ESA).{jcomments on}
According to John Pring of the Disability News Service, DRUK will provide training in equality to all of the 1,600 members of staff who work for the branch of Maximus that carries out the work capability assessment (WCA).
The training will consist of around 100 workshops delivered across the country and lasting for just two hours each.
The contract could be worth as much as £100,000 to DRUK, a welcome boost to the charity which has faced considerable financial challenges.
However, the decision of DRUK to work with Maximus has attracted widespread condemnation from disability campaigners.
