Health secretary Andy Burnham repeatedly failed to answer questions about disability living allowance for people aged 65 and over during a commons debate on the care green paper last week.
As reported by Benefits and Work, recent statements by government ministers that DLA will not be incorporated into the National Care Service appeared only to relate to claimants aged under 65.
As a result, MPs repeatedly pressed Andy Burnham in the course of the debate to explain precisely what would happen to people aged 65 and over who claim DLA, but got no response.
Mr Burnham’s’ lack off candour will fuel suspicions that the proposed National Care Service will involve the abolition not just of attendance allowance but also of disability living allowance for people aged 65 and over.
