Can you move from one seat to another right next to it without
help from someone else?

Does this mean 2 separate chairs? where you would need to get up from one and sit down on the other or does refer to say a 2 seater chair where you can shuffle over?

Hi Jox

I can't find any case law on this descriptor but I would interpret it as, from one chair to another.

Arguably moving from one side of a two-seater chair to the other is sitting in the same seated position.

That's my opinion, I can't guarantee that a decision maker or tribunal will agree.

Regards

Derek

Moving from one chair to another, yep, it's literally that, get up and go to another next to it, if you can do this then Atos will almost certainly say you can work...So my advice would be to only attempt this if you're not in any pain, if you are in pain tell them you can't do it, and explain why.

This appears at testing mobility between workstations/desks
If you have this problem then I would try and get some medical evidence to support this. You don't in theory need such evidence but it would be very helpful

If I was answering this, I would definitely interpret it as switching from one chair to another chair and standing up to do so.

If you can't do it regularly, repeatedly and safely then say 'no' and explain why.

I'm sure this is covered in the guide to filling out ESA50 - downloadable from the Members Area.

Perhaps it's moving to another chair in another room, on another floor?
