ATOS Docters. Already out there? was created by Bodnar
I have been under the local mental health team for a while now and last year I was assigned a new psychiatrist who was an absolute miserable, sullen so & so. I was going through a bad time as I had been burgled, bitten by a dog and had problems with neighbours. The one time I had an appointment with her(after been kept in the waiting room 45mins) I just broke down and sobbed my heart out. She was completely cold & kept talking about the length of time I have been out of work. Have I been looking for jobs(no because I have been ill)All work related questions, nothing to do with my mental state. I suspect she is a ATOS Doctor. Is it possible they are out there or am I paranoid?

As psychiatrists are specialist consultants in the field of mental health and therefore command a high salary, I doubt very much whether they would work on a sessional basis as approved disability analysts for the purpose of ESA medical assessments, where mental health issues are concerned.

With the risk of sounding facetious, mental health assessments are often left to optometrists, physiotherapists or nurses with very little or absolutely no experience of mental health problems.

Strange but true!

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

It actually makes sense on an 'I see no ships' basis. If you don't want to see the ships that are plainly there, use your blind eye. If you don't want to know how ill a person really is, have them examined by someone with no qualifications, experience or equipment, and you'll get the result you wanted.

they do have a couple of psychiatrist :) but most of that work is "covered" (in theory) by CPN RMN as you point out on a sessional basis .... its not that hard for them to get people who have retired at 55 on a nice pension and are finding less and less work at BUPA as people have no money to go private ... so working for the DWP/atos till the recession is over is all the rage.... as unlike retired GPs who can get £300 an hour doing after hours cover work for them is more limited :silly:

You should have said to her "am i in the right place, is this the jobcentre?" Disgusting attitude for a psychiatrist to take. Ask your GP to refer you to someone else. Do not accept this sort of treatment from a so called "professional".
