You will stay on your current IB payments until a Decision is made with regard to your eligiblility for ESA.

For a new claim, decisions are expected to be rendered within 13 weeks, so we would expect IB transfers to be slighly shorter as the initial application is obviously not required.

Having submitted your ESA50, the next decision point is whether you need to attend a medical, however the liklihood is that you will as only about 5% of ESA claimants are exempted. You should receive an appointment (if required) within the next couple of weeks.

If you want a better understanding of the ESA process have a read of our Understanding ESA guide in the Members area.

If you have more questions, please come back to the forum.

Are you basing the assumption that only 5 per cent of IB to ESA transferees will be excused from the WCA on the Burnley to Aberdeen test cases?

Because now that all the PCA exempt cases are being pushed onto ESA, surely it's likely that a majority of those will have higher care needs and are more likely to suffer from severe problems?

Do you know whether or not any of the Burnley and Aberdeen test cases were exempt from the PCA, and further, whether or not any were recipients of DLA HRC?

Thanks for any clarification.

No, I don't have exact figure to hand, but slightly less than 6% of all ESA claims result in placement in the Support Group.

Whilst it is likely that the majority of Support Group members were exempted from the medical, a significant minority would have had to attend one.

You make a good case that PCA exempt IB claimants may affect the figures, but conversely many of these will not have been assessed for some period of time (obviously), and may not have up to date medical evidence to support their claims.

I would also say, having looked at other forums, that many people, new and transfered, are quite naive in the way they complete the ESA forms.

Hi Clio am in the same boat as you,I sent my form back 2 weeks ago and i now have to go for a medical on the 28th of this month.I suffer from manic depression and emotional disruption behavior and cant go anywhere without someone coming with me.I just found this website lastweek and wished i found it sooner as the form just doesnt cover much for mental health. And now after reading all the stories on here i am terrified going to this medical as it seems am just going there to fail anyway, so is there really any point to it....

hi guys have been on ib for a number years, after heart attack and other probs.. I now have angina.

I have had seven operations on left due knee, 2 in last 18 months. I now am waiting for an operation for knee replacement.

I suffer badly with asthma after heart probs.

I was diagnosed with bipolar 4 years after been in pysc hospital for 3 months.

I take over 20 dif meds for heart, knee, asthma, bipolar. I am stressed to so badly it is making me ill.

I have just joined this site and some of the comments terrify me.

I looked at the questions on the form on this site, it seems impossible to try and list my problems issues in the form.

Did you have access to notes on this before you sent. I cant believe you have to go for a nedical. Please let me know how you get on.
