I was discharged by the pain clinic over a year ago, during my treatment, I tried meds and spinal injections, but neither worked. A third option of meds gave some relief, but no outright cure was found. My consultant discharged me with instructions to carry on taking my current pain medication. All his letters up until the point of discharge were very supportive, but the last letter he wrote was over 14 months ago.

A similar situation also exists with my Urologist ( once again, no cure found - but carry on taking the meds )

My ESA is now due and I'm concerned the DWP will consider medical evidence this old prior to being discharged.

Would this now be up to my GP to state as a present ongoing condition ? There is no way back to the consultants in order to get a letter - I think the NHS would protest. lol !

I should imagine it's a common situation considering no consultant hangs onto you for life :

I think a lot of the B&W members are in this position.

I would start by going to see your GP amd talking over the situation with him as there may still be opportunities for him to refer you on.

You might do some research into the prognosis for your conditiom. If you can show that there is no liklihood of improvement, then this could bring your original medical reports back into play.

Finally, you could consider having a report done privately although this will obviously cost.

Maybe someof the other members have some ideas.

More hospitals are doing this, the discharge letter should ? end

"if for any reason you think we should see X again in the future please re refer them back to us"

it should also say at this stage we can add nothing more to treatment or management of this case :(

that typeof letter is handy as it shows they dont expect you to get any better just to carry on
