Perhaps if the subject comes up, you could just gently suggest that with all the reforms that are happening, we don't know exactly what the future will bring but that there are changes happening to benefits and that if in the future she has any problems with her benefits, as a friend, you'll be there for her.
Depending on how she responds, you might want to add that you have been reading up on it and that if she wants to know anything about it, you'll try to find the answer for her.
That would leave it up to her to decide whether she wants to know more. Some of us (like you and me) like to know what the current and expected future situation is, but others like to wait and see and only you can know whether it would upset your friend to push the subject with her.
